As LGBTQ Students and Schools Across the Country Grapple with “Trump Effect,” Senator Murray Redoubles Efforts to Pass Anti-Harassment Legislation
Senator Murray reintroduces Tyler Clementi Higher Education Anti-Harassment Act to require colleges and universities to establish clear anti-harassment policies
LGBTQ youth are twice as likely to be harassed than their peers, yet there is no federal requirement that schools have policies in place to protect these students
Legislation is named after Tyler Clementi, a freshman at Rutgers University, who took his own life after experiencing harassment, bullying
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), along with Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Congressman Mark Pocan (D-WI), reintroduced legislation aimed at reducing bullying and harassment that affects one in five students at colleges and universities across the country. The Tyler Clementi Higher Education Anti-Harassment Act of 2017 would require institutions of higher education to establish policies to prohibit harassment based on actual or perceived race, color, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or religion. The bill also establishes a grant program to support campus anti-harassment activities and programs. The legislation is named after Tyler Clementi, a freshman at Rutgers University who took his own life after his roommate and another student invaded his privacy and harassed him over the Internet. INBA’s Directory Launch brought a lot of members and friends to nYne Bar and Bistro. Directories were provided in bags containing swag from Winston & Cashatt, Northern Quest Casino, STCU, Recorded Memories, and Spokane Empire Football.
The biggest hit of the event was Early Bird Karaoke. Charles Smaltz got the singing started and soon there others lined up to follow. The Events committee will consider making Early Bird Karaoke a quarterly INBA event.
I’ve always said I love Valentine’s Day, but I enjoy that more than once per year, my philosophy on Record Store Day mirrors that. It’s a great day to visit Recorded Memories, but certainly not the only day of the year. We’ve been here since 1987 providing service for customers often unable to find things elsewhere.
There will be many exclusive, limited releases on Saturday from artists as diverse as our store; including but not limited to: U2, Art of Noise, Bettie Serveert, George Carlin, The Cars, Busta Rhymes, Johnny Cash, Flat Duo Jets, The Doors, Emmylou Harris, Shooter Jennings, Moe, Wes Montgomery, Randy Newman, Jimmy Page, Pink Floyd, Iggy Pop, Procol Harum, Sublime, The Sundays and many more. Supply is EXTREMELY LIMITED! Most of the releases we will have in stock had production runs of only 300-2,000 total copies world wide!
